Update: Addressing Labour Shortages in the Agriculture & Agri-Food Industry National Workforce Action Plan

The agriculture and agri-food value chain is a powerful driver of the rural economy and the broader Canadian economy, contributing 8 per cent toward Canada’s GDP. The agriculture industry is currently experiencing critical labour shortages and needs more workers to remain globally competitive, to take advantage of export opportunities, and to ensure the security, safety and sustainability of food for Canadians. Currently, there are over 1,000 job openings that remain unfilled in the meat processing sector alone.
