Grow the Future Sector Action Plan Guide

The Grow the Future Sector Action Plan Guide provides tools, templates, and guidance for Ontario's industry associations seeking to support their members in finding, developing, and retaining the workforce they need to succeed.

The agriculture and food processing sectors are the economic engines of Ontario, contributing significantly to GDP and employment in the province. Industry associations play a vital role in supporting these sectors by advocating for, educating, and connecting their members in various sub-sectors and regions.

Industry poised for growth. However, a lack of workers or workers without the right skills may hamper potential growth…

Given the sector's ongoing labour challenges, many associations are committed to helping their members address their labour requirements—today and in the future.

The Skills & Occupations Gap Report uncovers some of the critical skills and occupation gaps that exist across the agriculture and food processing sales and services industries. Through extensive consultation with industry stakeholders, it highlights priority workforce issues, key trends across multiple industries and barriers to skill development. The report provides an overview of emerging skills that will be needed in the coming decade to build and grow a workforce for the future. It also proposes actions that sectors can take to support training current and future workers. Download the report for more information.

A guide for addressing sector workforce challenges

As part of the Labour Productivity Challenges project, the CAHRC developed a Grow the Future Sector Action Plan Guide to help agricultural associations develop their own subsector workforce action plans.

The guide includes tools, templates, and guidance to enable associations to assist their members in finding and keeping workers and helping the workforce to adapt to emerging skills that will be needed in the coming decade. To start developing a workforce action plan for your sub-sector, download the Grow the Future Sector Action Plan Guide.

A framework for Ontario's agricultural labour market

In addition to creating the Grow the Future Sector Action Plan Guide, CAHRC is addressing the workforce planning challenges of the agriculture and food processing sectors by developing the Labour Market Information (LMI) framework.

This initiative, funded and made possible through the Canadian Agriculture Partnership, produced a framework of common terminology and best practices that can be applied universally to primary agriculture and food processing as well as different subsectors and regions. Learn more about the LMI framework and access the framework report here.
